Dr. Rose Maria McCarthy Anding has worn many hats in business and in life—all of them colorful and interesting. Now her most favorite is that of “Grandma.” This role has prompted her to write about the Golden Rule, to be taught under the watchful eyes of parents and grandparents.
Rose has received four degrees since 2012. In 2018, at the age of eighty, Rose received her Doctor of Ministry in Leadership and Global Perspective. She also received Master of Arts in Human Service Counseling: Addictions and Recovery; Master of Divinity in Chaplaincy counseling; and a Master of Arts in Religion with an emphasis on evangelism and church planting. Most of these were earned since Rose turned seventy. Each was part of her desire to develop ways to help those with addiction issues as they struggle and after they recover.

Dr. Rose Maria McCarthy Anding was born in Mississippi. Anding serves as the Executive Director of the Restoration Christian Outreach Community. In honor of her parents, Anding oversees the humanitarian programs being operated by the Early & Lettie Simmons Foundation for Humanity to help those who are ensnared by an addiction of any kind. She is a widower, mother, stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

This book is dedicated to my great grandson, Denver, as a guide for his life. This is what his family really wants for him: to grow up learning how to love himself and to feel safe and loved in his environment. Through this, he will grow to be a happy, healthy, kind, compassionate, and loving adult. When the world is filled with compassionate people, we will see compassion and kindness on a much grander scale.
Life is about learning the Golden Rule and living by it: “Love your neighbor as thyself” (Gal. 5:14, New International Version).
According to the Cambridge English Dictionary, thyself is defined as follows: yourself; the reflexive form or strong form of thou, used when speaking to one person. This book will serve as a mentor for my young great grandchild and others, from youth to those in their golden years of life. The purpose of this book is to leave an indelible impression, as “thyself” is predicated on how one treats others. Always consider the effect your actions will have on your neighbor. Remember love is the guide to everything we do.
